What It Is

Cooper Complete® Eye Health Supplement provides key nutrients FloraGLO® lutein, bilberry, meso zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin, clinically proven to promote healthy eyes and vision.

For people with or at high risk for some eye conditions, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the right combination of supplements may help slow or prevent these conditions. For example, the National Eye Institute released findings from its follow-up to the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS), AREDS2, which followed 4203 participants for 5-6 years. The participants were 50-85 years old and had drusen (an early indicator of macular degeneration) in both eyes or large drusen in one eye with advanced AMD in the other eye. The findings from the AREDS2 study show that high doses of antioxidants vitamin C (500 mg), vitamin E (400 IU), 25 mg of zinc, and ingredients lutein and zeaxanthin reduced the risk of vision loss from AMD in people with intermediate AMD or advanced AMD in just one eye.

How to Use:

As a dietary supplement, take two (2) softgels daily with a meal or as directed by your health care professional. Each bottle contains 60 servings.

Cooper Complete® Eye Health Supplement has been formulated to provide essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants clinically proven to promote eye health.

Since our eyes are so metabolically active, proper nutrition is vital to help maintain proper vision. Cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, and dry eyes become issues for many as we age. Lutein is an antioxidant that may protect the macula tissue from destructive oxidation reactions by quenching free radicals. Lutein also filters high-energy blue light that can damage the macula and skin. Research indicates lutein, zeaxanthin, and zinc supplements may help to slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration, but they do not improve the condition.

Based upon these discoveries (and with the assumption that someone taking our Eye Health product is likely taking one of our multivitamin and mineral formulations), Cooper Complete Eye Health formulation contains 350 mg of vitamin C. When combined with the 150 mg in our Basic One multivitamin, the 500 mg level from the AREDS study is achieved. Similarly, Cooper Complete Eye Health contains 134 mg (200 IU) of natural vitamin E. The 400 IU (268 mg) level from the AREDS2 study is achieved when combined with either Cooper Complete Original or Cooper Complete Basic One multivitamin.

Eye Health formulation also contains 25 mg of zinc. Because this zinc level reduces copper levels by approximately 2 mg, 2 mg of copper is also in the formulation.

We have always included lutein and zeaxanthin in our formulation, and the AREDS2 study confirmed that people who took a formula with lutein and zeaxanthin showed further improvement. To ensure the optimum quality of these key ingredients, we use 10 mg of FloraGlo® lutein (a natural form of lutein) and 2 mg of natural zeaxanthin. In addition, we include 10 mg of meso zeaxanthin, a carotenoid that is found in high concentration in the center of the retina in the macula. It’s believed that meso-zeaxanthin is synthesized in the retina from lutein. These three nutrients have been studied and found to increase macular pigmentation when taken long-term.

Visual Processing and Performance

Since the 1990s, research has shown that lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoids found at high levels in kale and spinach, can help lower the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of blindness in adults over the age of 65. Now, research shows that these two nutrients,  when delivered in the proper doses, can also improve the visual "performance" of athletes.

In virtually every sport, the ability to "see" better and faster results in improved performance.

Consider in football the expectation for a quarterback to instantly determine whether to throw to one of three different receivers, dump a pass off to a running back, or tuck and run. Or for a receiver or defensive back, while running at full speed, to leap in traffic, locate the pass in bright sunshine or against glaring stadium lights, and then react to a tipped ball to make the catch.

Realize that a spike in volleyball can top 90 mph, a slap shot in hockey often exceeds 100 mph and serves in tennis routinely reach 124 mph for women and 140 mph for men.

As it turns out, nutrition plays an incredible role in how an athlete's eyes perform during competition.

Eye Health Glare Recovery

A 2008 trial published in Optometry and Vision Science studied 40 healthy men and women with a mean age of 23.9 years. After four months of supplementation with 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin, glare recovery improved significantly. After six months, the subjects' ability to tolerate glaring light improved by 58 percent, and the time to recover sight following exposure to bright light (photostress) improved by 5 seconds or 14 percent.

We all have experienced how our eyes need time to adjust from a brightly lit lobby into a dark movie theater. This adjustment, albeit not as dramatic, is constantly happening in competitive athletics. The difference is that in a movie theater, there is rarely any pressure to find a seat instantly. In sports, however, the faster and more accurately you can make a decision, the better.

Cooper Complete Eye Health Supplement is recommended for adults. The daily serving is two softgels (daily with a meal).

Please Note: This product contains eye nutrients only and is not a comprehensive daily multivitamin. It is recommended that you take it in conjunction with the multivitamin of your choice and Advanced Omega-3.
